As the school year comes to a close, Westhampton Beach Elementary School students who worked in the school’s greenhouse throughout the year showed off their green thumbs at an open house on Tuesday afternoon.
Dozens of students, mostly fourth and fifth graders, ran stations to show parents and community members their work in preparing a garden, composting, seeding and harvesting the produce. They invited guests to try their fresh winter greens, including spinach and kale, and to take a look at their bright purple potatoes.
The open house was organized by student leaders, the elementary Parent Teacher Association, greenhouse consultant and local farm educator Renato Stafford and greenhouse manager Alexandra Santiago DiBiaso.
