I hope you all made it through the storm safe and sound. We had the top of a tree come down in our yard on Sunday afternoon, well before Sandy had even arrived. It didn’t make it to the ground right away; it perched itself about 15 feet in the air, between two other trees. At around 5 a.m. on Monday I heard a crash that woke me up, so I threw on some jeans and went outside to investigate. The treetop that had been dangling precariously above the ground was now laying in my front yard, luckily just touching our house.
I don’t know what is worse: all the hype and dramatic build up on the news and the Weather Channel or the actual storms. My friend Eric and I were saying just the other day that the mainstream media almost forces people into panic mode and sometimes makes situations worse than they need to be. Sure, I think we need to take precautions and prepare for the worst, but you don’t really know what is going to happen until it does, and then you just have to deal with it the best that you can.
I guess the Weather Channel views hurricanes like the main television networks see the World Series or the Super Bowl, but I don’t think they get as much money for the commercials.
