What This Means

The reporting of Karl Grossman in his recent column [“Trump Local Ties,” Suffolk Closeup, Opinion, January 21] is critical for voters to read and understand. He states that talks are believed to have taken place in an arrangement that would give Lee Zeldin a spot in a second Trump administration, and Donald Trump Jr. would possibly run as the Republican nominee to replace him.

If true, this would indicate that, at the time Lee Zeldin was supporting Donald Trump’s effort to overthrow a duly elected government, discussions with the Trump people were taking place about taking a position in a second Trump administration.

What this means is that all of Zeldin’s posturing had nothing to do with standing up for election integrity and everything to do with advancing his personal ambitions. It would mean that he has been deeply corrupted and is the very opposite of the American patriot he likes to portray.

Government officials, the media and leaders of the Republican Party owe it to their constituents on the East End to demand that Lee Zeldin respond to Karl Grossman’s reporting, preferably under oath, and subsequently be held accountable for the full extent of his involvement in Trump’s effort at insurrection.
