William B. Finnegan
William Bartholomew Finnegan of Southampton died at Southampton Hospital on Friday, May 27. He was 95.
Born in Brooklyn in 1916, he graduated from Westbury High School and began his long mechanical engineering career at Sperry Gyroscope. He retired from Airborne Instruments Laboratory, a division of Cutler Hammer in Deer Park
Mr. Finnegan, known as “Bill,” was a founding member of Noyac Golf Club and enjoyed the many years of his longtime membership at Southampton Golf Club. He lived life to the fullest every day and loved the beauty of the East End, especially the clamming and fishing; his smiling Irish eyes and warm sense of humor will be greatly missed by his family and friends, survivors said.
Mr. Finnegan is survived by his wife of 68 years, Mildred; a daughter, Patricia Pellegrino and her husband Alan of Southampton; a son, Kevin and his wife Diane also of Southampton; four grandchildren, Christopher and Jodi Pellegrino of Oregon, Pamela and Brian Blackburn of California, Brian Finnegan of Connecticut and Jennie Finnegan of Southampton; and three great-grandchildren, Piper and Cricket Pellegrino of Oregon and Samuel Blackburn of California.
A funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, June 1, at Our Lady of Poland Roman Catholic Church in Southampton; cremation followed. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton.
