William “Bill” Tresper Clarke of Southampton died peacefully on August 12. He was 84.
Born on February 14, 1940, in Brooklyn, he later moved to East Meadow, where his father’s tremendous contributions to the community are immortalized in the naming of WT Clarke High School.
It was in East Meadow that he discovered his lifelong love for music, mastering the trumpet and realizing the profound impact of music education. His dedication to the arts led him to a fulfilling career as a music educator and band director, in which he inspired countless students and further strengthened the Clarke family’s legacy within the community.
Later, he moved to Southampton, where he focused on his family, pursued a new passion as an arborist, and continued to share his love of music. He lived out the rest of his life with his beloved wife of 36 years, Christine Clarke, by his side.
“Though the music here on Earth has quieted and the trees prepare for autumn, the memory of Bill’s vibrant life endures,” his family said. “In his new home, the trumpets play loudly in joyous harmony, the trees remain lush and vibrant year-round, and his light continues to shine down on us, reminding us to love, live, and be kind.”
He is survived by his wife Christine; their son, Todd Doncourt; his four children from his previous marriage to Dorathy Clarke: Christopher, Lawrence, Aimee and William Tresper Clarke Jr. (Chip); his brother, Robert Clarke; and his two grandchildren, Paige and Harper Clarke, along with their spouses; and extended family.
