William E. Helmdag, a resident of Sag Harbor for more than 50 years, died on November 6 at Southampton Hospital. He was 66.
Born April 17, 1943, in Flushing, Queens, to Erna (née Harbecka) and William Helmdag, he attended Flushing High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for Long Island Lighting Company and was a member of the Sag Harbor Volunteer Exempt Firemen’s Benevolent Association.
He is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Helmdag of Sag Harbor, a granddaughter, Skylar Ray Helmdag, and a niece and a nephew. A sister, Margaret Decastro predeceased him.
Visitation will be on Friday, November 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in Sag Harbor.
