William F. Kearns of East Quogue died on August 23, 2018. He was 92.
Born on April 20, 1926, in Massachusetts, he grew up in Brooklyn during the Great Depression. He attended Notre Dame University, and was a lieutenant junior grade in the United States Navy, serving in the PT Boater Division during World War II. He also graduated from Colombia University Midshipman School in 1945 and was a life member of the American Legion.
During the 1960s, Mr. Kearns moved his family to East Quogue. He was the owner of Quogue Electric Company for many years and later was employed at Brookhaven Lab as an electrical supervisor until his retirement.
He loved taking care of animals, his family, and lived in the same neighborhood for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret; his children, Sherman Kearns (Susan), Mary Kearns Lehman, John Kearns (Joy), and Sarah Kearns Sulzinski (Paul); grandchildren, Christina, Ryan, Erin, Gabrielle, Lee, Bret, Jamie, Kaitlyn and Marissa; two great-grandchildren, Arlena and Oliva; and a sister, Arlene Dumont (Leslie). He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Katherine Lehman.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 30, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception Church on Quiogue.
