William H. Ruppert

William H. Ruppert of Riverhead died on January 25 from complications due to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). He was 58.

Mr. Ruppert was a longtime resident of the East End. He graduated from Westhampton Beach High School and the State University at Oneonta. He worked for many years at Mendenhall Fuel in East Quogue. In his spare time, Mr. Ruppert enjoyed watching the sunsets while surf casting along the South Shore, golfing and canoeing on the Peconic River. He ended many workdays with a long walk at the Quogue Wildlife Sanctuary. He could always be relied on to lend a helping hand, and could also be counted on to crack a hilarious or irreverent joke when least expected.

Mr. Ruppert is survived by his wife, Jesusa “Jessie” (Narag); his father, William Ruppert of Westhampton; and a sister, Christine Karlinsky and husband Martin of New York City and Cornwall-on-Hudson.

The family received friends at the Follett and Werner Funeral Home on January 27. A funeral service followed on Sunday evening with the Reverend Jack King of Beach United Methodist Church officiating.
