William T. Kennedy of Flanders dies at 84

William T. Kennedy of Flanders died on May 6 at Southampton Hospital. He was 84.

Mr. Kennedy worked for Howard Hughes, flying supply delivery planes to North Africa during World War II.

In addition, he worked as the treasurer of Chase Bank in New York City for 34 years.

Family and friends remember him as the unofficial “mayor of Bay View Pines” in Flanders, because, as a friend recalled, he “kept a good watch over the community.”

He also cared for several stray and abandoned cats in the community and spent much of his leisure time boating and fishing with friends.

Services will be private. In 
lieu of flowers, donations to Southampton Hospital, 330 Meeting House Lane, Annex, Southampton, NY 11968 would be appreciated by friends and family.

Family Fun Day Set At Hampton Bays Church

The Hampton Bays Assembly of God will host a Family Fun Day on Saturday, June 7, from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, June 8. All are invited to the free event that will include face painting, crafts, games, music, food, an inflatable obstacle course and bounce house, animal shelter dog walking and an educational exhibit from the Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Refuge. Teeny Awards To Be Presented on June 8

East End Arts & Humanities Council, Inc. will present its 23rd annual Teeny Awards on Sunday, June 8, at 3 p.m. at Greenport High School, A red carpet event starts at 1 p.m. The 2025 Teeny Awards ceremony, hosted by WLIW’s Gianna Volpe and produced by Kasia Klimiuk, will feature performances by over 100 high school theater students, while presenters consisting of leaders in theater, as well as the local community, present a variety of awards for the 2024/25 high school theater season. Air Force Major General Michael Bank, the commander of the New York Air National Guard, has announced the recent promotion of members of the New York Air National Guard in recognition of their capability for additional responsibility and leadership. Edward Metcalf from Westhampton Beach, assigned to the 106th Rescue Wing, received a promotion April 1 to the rank of master sergeant.
