William Wakeman Jackson
Former Hampton Bays resident Lieutenant Colonel William Wakeman Jackson died on May 12. He was 81.
Born February 3, 1929, to Lester and Elizabeth Jackson, Mr. Jackson played trumpet for the New York State High School Band and also earned a spot on the All-County basketball team. Family members recently remembered him as a man who loved spending time with his wife and family, watching the Yankees, working in his yard, tending to his fish pond, listening to music and playing piano.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kay Jackson of Colorado; a son, John Jackson, also of Colorado; five grandchildren, Danielle Jolley of Tennessee, Stacy Newlin of Missouri, Robert Jackson, Deborah Gray and Dustin Gray, all of Colorado; and five great-grandchildren, Garrett, Paul, Aiden, Arianna and Lynn.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Lynn Jackson-Hubbard, and a brother, John Jackson.
The family held a memorial service on May 18 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs. Interment followed at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
