There are two propositions on the ballot — as always, don’t forget to flip your ballot over! — that deserve attention. The first is a state measure that would clear the way for an Olympic skiing and trail facility on preserved land upstate. We recommend a yes vote, simply because it seems like a sensible use of valuable real estate for the benefit of that region and the entire state. In an age punctuated by extreme political party divisions and acrimony, it was refreshing to hear from two Suffolk County legislators representing the East End — one a Democrat and one a Republican — about how well they worked together to represent the interests of their varied constituents and pass legislation to benefit all residents, regardless of political affiliation. There are precious few choices for Southampton Town voters to make between now and November 4, a sad state of affairs based on well-documented horse trading that took place behind the scenes.
