Zorica Babich
Zorica Babich, a longtime resident of Southampton, died from cancer on April 28 at her New York City home. She was 86.
According to survivors, the road to Southampton had been a long one. Born and married in Belgrade, Serbia, Ms. Babich moved with her husband and two small children to Harrar, Ethiopia. In 1967, the family emigrated to the United States, settling in New York. They purchased a vacation home in Southampton in 1974. After her husband retired from the practice of medicine in New York City, they made Southampton their permanent residence.
Survivors also said she was an elegant, kind and great lady, whose life, pride and joy was her family.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dushan J. Babich, M.D.; a daughter, attorney Dushica Protic and her husband John Protic, M.D. of Manhattan; a son, Alexander Babich, M.D. Ph.D. and his wife Sarah Hanly Ph.D. of St. Louis; three grandsons of whom she was especially proud, Nikola Protic, a student at Trinity High School in Manhattan, Stefan Babich, a junior at Oberlin College, and Luke Babich entering Stanford University in the fall; as well as two beloved nieces, Ivana and Gordana Ognjanovic, both attorneys in Los Angeles, and their families.
Visitation was at Brockett Funeral Home on Monday, April 30, followed by a graveside service at Southampton Cemetery; the Reverend Constantine Lazarakis officiated.
