September 13, 1894

With the copious showers of Saturday afternoon and evening and the heavy prolonged thunder showers of Monday night, it may be safe to say that the severe drought of 1894 is at last broken. We thought so once before and so expressed ourselves on the 16th of August, but we afterwards found that our fondest expectations in that line were blasted, and that in forty-eight hours it was about as dry and dusty as ever.

September 11, 1919

The last issue of the Riverhead Review was its second issue on its seventeenth volume. It was started by Hagen & Lee but for some time past Harry Lee has been its sole manager. Being at the county seat where news and patronage pours in, it has made wonderful progress since its first issue until the present time.

September 14, 1944

The Old Sagg-Harbor Committee has an unusual and rare treat in store for the people of Sag Harbor. They have obtained a promise from Mr. Everett Uberto Crosby of Nantucket to come and give a talk “in respect to the old buildings of Nantucket, to come and give a talk to engender respect for them and their continuation by education and explanation and not by force of ordinance” and how Sag Harbor may accomplish the same ends with the equally marvelous old Colonial buildings we have.

September 12, 1968

A new year has begun at Pierson and it promises to be a very busy one. The enrollment has made a spurt at the end of the summer. We have 745 students now which is 50 more than we had registered in June.

September 15, 1994

The Pierson High School Principal search is drawing near completion following Superintendent Barnes’ report at the Board of Education meeting Monday night. Richard Volo, an Assistant Principal at Port Jefferson Jr./Sr. High School, Robert Schneider, an Associate Principal at Riverhead High School and Gerard Grande, an Assistant Principal at Tottenville High School are the three candidates who have passed the examination of the Principal Search Committee. They will be visiting the school between September 20-22.
