Rock Star Band Camp, one of the principal sponsors of this year’s Hampton Idol competition, will begin 2009 with a slate of on-stage performances and new winter classes.
The “Rock Camp” class will take the opening act spot at the 2009 Hampton Idol. Students will rock classics and perform a brand new original tune they wrote themselves at the February 27 Hampton Idol Finale. Rock Star Band Camp is a proud sponsor of the singing competition and our Band Camp founder and creative director Amanda Halsey will serve as a Hampton Idol judge this year.
Winter classes this year include “Rock Camp,” a performance and song writing class, and “Record-A-CD,” a new offering in which students record a full-length CD, create album art, and film a music video.
The five-week Rock Camp class will run Saturdays from noon to 2 p.m. starting January 17 and running through February 14. Rock Camp students will perform at Regulars Café in North Sea on Saturday, February 14, at 3 p.m. and at the Hampton Idol finale in Hampton Bays on Friday, February 27, at 7 p.m.
“Record-A-CD” also begins on Saturday, January 17, with classes running from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays through March 14. All classes meet at Squiretown Park, 62 Red Creek Road in Hampton Bays and are hosted by Rock Star Band Camp and sponsored by the Town of Southampton Parks and Recreation Department. Rock Star Band Camp was founded by New York singer/songwriter and producer Amanda Halsey in response to the growing interactive music market that has opened up for teenagers and adults. Following a successful 2007 summer camp in Westhampton Beach, where students participated in such recording camps as “Hip-Hop 101” and “The Band,” the Band Camp launched fall 2007 classes in Manhattan and on Long Island, and launched @Home lessons from Rock Star Band Camp, designed for students who want to receive customized lesson plans in their own homes.
Students hailing from the Upper East Side of Manhattan to Montauk are encouraged to be themselves while creating their own original music.
