Born on December 29, 1922, in New York City to Thomas and Kathryn Quinn, she graduated from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale in 1944, earning a degree in business administration.
After having spent many wonderful summers in Montauk, Ms. Desmond’s family decided to move there from Flushing. In Montauk, Ms. Desmond worked at the Ocean Science Lab and sold real estate. She also volunteered as a religious education teacher at St. Therese of Lisieux.
Ms. Desmond had a sunny disposition, loved to laugh and enjoyed meeting new people. Listening to big band music, going to the beach and reading were her passions. She will be remembered most for her abiding faith in God and the constant love and devotion she had for her family, survivors said.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Dr. Jeremiah Desmond of Montauk; six children, Kathleen and husband Stephen Carney of Massachusetts, Eugenia and husband Paul O’Connor of Upper Nyack, Jeremiah Desmond of Montauk, Dr. Richard and his wife Ramona Desmond of Flushing, Mary Celeste and her husband Stephen Howard of East Hampton, Thomas and his wife Delilah Desmond of Montauk; six grandchildren, Timothy Howard, Katherine Desmond, Thomas and Kathryn O’Connor, and Thomas and Delilah Desmond; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation took place on Friday, December 9, at Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton. A funeral Mass was held on Saturday, December 10, at St. Therese of Lisieux; her nephew, Father George O’Neill of St. Joseph’s of Brookfield, Connecticut officiated.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Dominican Sisters Family Health Service, P.O. Box 1028 Hampton Bays, NY 11946, would be appreciated by the family.
