William H. Corwith of Water Mill died on July 18. He was 58.

Born in Southampton on April 24, 1958, he graduated from Southampton High School in 1976, and went on to study agriculture at the State University of New York at Delhi, earning an associate’s degree in applied science in 1978. Mr. Corwith worked in farming and horticulture for many years before he began working as a carpenter. He built his own construction business, which has served Eastern Long Island for more than 25 years.

Mr. Corwith was an active member of the Southampton Fire Department for 30 years, serving as the treasurer of its Benevolent Association, and was active in both the Agawam Engine Company and Rescue Squad.

Mr. Corwith volunteered with Boy Scout Troop 58 in Southampton, mentoring many Scouts as they achieved the highest Boy Scout rank of Eagle and taught them building and leadership skills.

His passions included fishing, gardening, hunting, and making music. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and sharing his deep Christian faith.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Southampton for many years, where he served as a deacon, an elder, and a trustee. He taught Sunday School, Youth Group, Confirmation class and participated in the Bell Choir, and mission trips to New York City and the Dominican Republic. Since 2012, he was as a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bridgehampton where he was a member of the Bell and vocal choirs and led Bible studies.

Mr. Corwith is survived by his wife of almost 37 years, Carolyn Rose Corwith; and their two daughters, Janet E. Corwith, and Katelyn E. Corwith. In addition he is survived by his mother, Marilyn P. Corwith; and two sisters, Emily C. Pavelek and husband Thomas, Lynne Corwith Fraas and husband Steven; a sister-in-law, Margaret H. Fowler and her two sons, Richard R. Fowler and Andrew C. Fowler; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Richard C. Corwith; and a brother Richard J. “Dicky” Corwith.

Visitation and firematic services were held at the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton. A funeral was held at Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church, followed by burial at the Water Mill Cemetery.

Southampton DWI Arrests for the Week of April 25

Michael Martin, 58, of Montclair, New Jersey, was arrested by Southampton Town Police on April 22 at 1:02 a.m. on Old Riverhead Road in Northampton and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor.
