Arni Amster Of Water Mill Dies June 13

Arni Amster died on June 13 in Manhattan, after a brief illness, surrounded by his family and friends. He was 75.

Mr. Amster had been a part-time resident of Water Mill since 1981 and settled there full time in 2002. He was a mathematician with a degree from New York University’s Courant Institute. Early in his career, he worked on software for the defense industry and the ascent engine for the first landing on the moon. He then changed direction for a career on Wall Street, doing risk arbitrage for several firms before starting his own boutique arbitrage firm, Amster & Company.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Amster; a daughter, Wendy Amster; a son-in-law, David Hinkes; a grandson, Micah Hinkes; a sister, Loretta Nordon; a nephew, Mitchell Nordon; a niece, Ann Nordon; a sister-in-law, Linda Preuss; and mother-in-law, Gladys Preuss.

Southampton DWI Arrests for the Week of April 25

Michael Martin, 58, of Montclair, New Jersey, was arrested by Southampton Town Police on April 22 at 1:02 a.m. on Old Riverhead Road in Northampton and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor.
