Joan Lewandowski Schellinger Of Springs Dies August 30

Joan Lewandowski Schellinger of Springs died on August 30. She was 78.

Born in Bridgehampton on April 5, 1936, to Chester and Julia Lewandowski, she graduated from Bridgehampton High School with high honors and received an award for her essay about the “Daughters of Revolution.” Soon after, in 1954, she married the love of her life, Stanley “Pep” Schellinger, who predeceased her in August 2011. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on September 5, 2014.

Ms. Schellinger enjoyed many hobbies such as Bingo, scratch-off lottery tickets, crossword puzzles, card games, yard work, and comedy TV shows, and she had a deep love for nature. She truly enjoyed devoting her young adult years to chaperoning field trips, Girl Scout meetings and watching her children’s and grandchildren’s various school sports games.

She also loved to volunteer her time in the community. She donated her time to the East Hampton Blood Drive for more than 25 years and she had been a greeter at the East Hampton Health Care Center, welcoming and offering assistance to those who entered the building.

Ms. Schellinger is survived by four children, Charles Schellinger of Springs, Wendy Schwob of Florida, Evelyn Shields of Amagansett and Yvonne Wood of Springs, along with their spouses; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters and a brother, Eleanor Weber of Connecticut, Marsha Weaver of Florida and Leon Lewandowski of Colorado.

Memorial donations may be made to the Springs Fire Department Ambulance Fund, 179 Fort Pond Boulevard, East Hampton, NY 11937 or by giving blood at the East Hampton Blood Drive.

Southampton DWI Arrests for the Week of April 25

Michael Martin, 58, of Montclair, New Jersey, was arrested by Southampton Town Police on April 22 at 1:02 a.m. on Old Riverhead Road in Northampton and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor.
