Art, Experience Collide At Sag Harbor Cinema Auction

Next week, eBay for Charity in partnership with the Sag Harbor Cinema hosts “Art and Experience,” an online auction to benefit the restoration of the historic Sag Harbor movie theater, as it rapidly approaches its anticipated re-opening date later this year.

The auction goes live on Wednesday, August 28, and will feature about 60 works of art by both local and internationally-known artists — Ross Bleckner, David Salle, Eric Fischl, Cindy Sherman and Laurie Simmons, to name a few — as well as one-of-a-kind experiences. Score a pair of New York Film Festival tickets to the world premiere of “The Irishman” with Martin Scorsese, or a Yoga Shanti private class with Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman, Nicole Miller fashion show tickets and lunch in the showroom, a walk-through on the High Line with Board President Robert Hammond, a San Miguel de Allende vacation, lunch with Carl Bernstein, backstage and live performances at “Wicked” and “Saturday Night Live,” and more. Prices of artwork will range from $250 to $50,000, and bidding on experiences will be available simultaneously through eBay.

While bidding technically continues through Wednesday, September 4, local Sag Harbor gallerists — Laura Grenning, Sara Nightingale, Julie Keyes and Tulla Booth — will host the art auction on “Tumbleweed Tuesday,” Tuesday, September 3, with work on view from 2 to 8 p.m. at each of their galleries on Main Street. A party at Page restaurant (at 53 Main Street) will coincide with the gallery events, running from 5 to 10 p.m. and Main Street merchants will keep their doors open later than usual that evening.

Also on September 3, Sylvester and Co. will host a reception for “Sag Noir,” the photographic portfolio of the Sag Harbor Cinema created by photographer Don Lenzer. The portfolio features 14 archival digital prints taken of the movie theater in the aftermath the December 2016 fire that largely destroyed the building. There will be a wine reception at Sylvester’s from 5 to 7 p.m. with Mr. Lenzer in attendance.

“Tickets for galleries and Page Restaurant are not necessary, and the public is warmly invited,” a press release said. “The rebuilding of the Sag Harbor Cinema is a community effort that will serve the entire East End of Long Island when it is completed.”
