We Need Housing

I am a 2000 graduate of Southampton High School and had five years of college, graduating from Southampton College. I am working three jobs, but my primary is for Sag Harbor Schools. My wife, Katora, works for Bridgehampton National Bank and has taken the Suffolk County police exam. We attend the Community Baptist Church in Southampton.

The only place that we could find to live is in Wading River. I commute 80 miles, round trip, every day. We have to commute to everything. With the extra expense of gas, wear and tear, and time, we will never be able to save enough for eventual homeownership. It’s a struggle all the time.

We want to raise our children around our families and live in “The Hamptons,” where we grew up. The people who are NIMBY already have their homes. Let them try to do what we do every day.

We desperately need affordable homes and rentals out here. Everyone knows it and says so, but nobody does it. This man Ralph Fasano wants to do it [“Developer Proposing 60 Affordable Apartments Could Get Chance To Apply For A Zoning Change Next Month,” 27east.com, August 5]. He should be commended.

For the sake of us and many more families, let him proceed.
