Comparing East Quogue to Sagaponack is ludicrous. Sagaponack is one of the wealthiest, most exclusive areas of Long Island, and because of that has special concerns that had to be met. East Quogue, which is already a much more densely populated and established hamlet, has different concerns, which are being successfully met by the Town of Southampton, with its professional, varied and experienced departments. It’s a town that has experience in cooperating and working with special-interest and environmental groups, which is of special concern to us all right now, considering the sensitive water situation.

Many towns that have incorporated in recent years have gone through the expensive and difficult job of unincorporating because of higher taxes and in-fighting among their residents. This is aside from a small handful of villages, all which have been incorporated for many, many generations.

The special-interest group that has been pushing for East Quogue to incorporate has stated clearly that its interests lie in “controlling our zoning.” Not worth the in-fighting and turmoil we have been involved in these past years. And certainly not worth gambling away what we do have here currently in this wonderful hamlet. And, without a doubt, not worth years of effort and major costs for attorneys’ fees to undo the damage that will have occurred.

Let us all work together to keep East Quogue the special hamlet that it is. Please vote “no” to incorporation.
