Doing Their Best

My wife, Gloria, and I recently joined Drawdown, a group formed to help the environment. Part of the goal of the organization is to help rid our atmosphere of carbon dioxide and methane gases. We have been recycling our garbage at the Southampton transfer station for 25 years, not really knowing what was happening to the waste. One week ago, I took the initiative to visit the center.

I was very pleasantly surprised at what I learned. Supervisor Ed Thompson spent one hour listing all the up-to-date machinery and facilities available at the center. He was gracious enough to help me understand where the recycled materials are sent and which ones are put into compost.

We all need to be aware of the tremendous problems facing our Earth due to the amount of waste we are creating. Mr. Thompson and the Town of Southampton are doing their best to solve these issues.
