Congratulations to my friend Dennis Schmidt on the milestone 40th anniversary of his fine store [“Schmidt’s To Celebrate 40 Years In Business In March,” 27east.com, February 21].
No other place in Southampton so well defines our small community.
Of course it’s best place to stop for the freshest produce, delicious take-out lunch, the local paper, and coffee — but, most of all, I look forward to my quick chats with Dennis for local news. He never disappoints.
In our world order of e-commerce, dull influencers and the steady arrival of small cardboard boxes, a visit to Schmidt’s is a much needed reminder as to why I moved out here in the first place.

Many extremely wealthy American businessmen have returned to supporting Donald Trump after fiercely criticizing him for his role in the January 6 insurrection. They have explained that they believe that a second Joe Biden term will be detrimental for them...
And the simple question comes: At what point do the owners of a property get to decide how it is used? How is this lost in the law? The airport is not a major hub. The town owns the land....
