Michael Loos Jr. died March 1, 2020, at Stony Brook University Hospital, following a long illness. He was 54.

Born June 5, 1965, he lived his early years on Long Island in Oakdale, Southampton, Noyac and Sag Harbor, graduating from Pierson High School. He attended Stony Brook University and Boston University. He lived a varied and eclectic life as a landscaper on Long Island, a bagel maker in Santa Cruz, California, a chef in Boston, and raised goats in Burnsville, North Carolina, moved to Eastpoint, Florida, and created numerous artistic paver driveways in and around Franklin County, returned to Sag Harbor to work with brothers Tim and Dan Loos building/construction on the East End.

In July 2017, he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia and given 10 days to live. With sheer optimism and faith, he was determined to beat the odds and following a stem cell bone marrow transplant from donor sister Amanda Loos and a year of subsequent treatment, he was pronounced cancer free. His immune system, though, was compromised and he spent much of his last years hospitalized, each time rallying from critical setbacks. A biopsy of his lungs to determine the illness that plagued him and other transplant patients was never possible during his lifetime. In accordance with his wishes, this biopsy was now completed with hopes to benefit other leukemia patients and assist with ongoing cancer research.

Mr. Loos believed sincerely in second chances for everyone, survivors said, adding that he wasa protector, trusted and caring confidante, and an epic storyteller. He loved animals, nature, music, books, coffee, and videogames.

He was predeceased by his father, artist Mike Loos, and ex-wife Serena Loos. He is survived by a son, Samuel Loos of Eastpoint; grandchildren Jenise, Sammy and Aubrey; a stepdaughter, Samantha Creamer of Florida; mother Eileen Annie Ball and stepfather Tom Ball of Eastpoint; brothers Daniel Loos (Teresa) of East Hampton, Timothy Loos (Angela) of Mastic; sister Amanda Loos Logan (Steve) of Chicago; stepbrother Jon Ball; stepsisters Bonny Ball of Florida and Conny Ball of Southold; nieces and nephews Abigail, Serenity, Timmy, Nathaniel, Sonia, Chaucer; and aunts, uncles, cousins, and cherished friends.

A memorial service was held at South Bay Bible Church in East Moriches on March 7.
