Make It Happen

Suffolk Country’s 1st Congressional District voters have a critical primary election on June 23. We must select a congressional representative who reflects and represents the needs and values of all our district’s constituents — unlike the current occupant of the office, Lee Zeldin.

Voting nearly 100 percent with Trump, Rep. Zeldin has voted to roll back environmental protections. He voted against health care coverage for pre-existing conditions and recently voted against a bill for prescription drug coverage reform. And he sided with Trump and voted against protecting our state and local tax deduction, thereby raising our taxes.

Fortunately, we have a great slate of Democrat challengers to Lee Zeldin this month. But I’m partial to the one who has relevant, proven credentials and knows how to pull the levers of government and politics to get things done. For us.

Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming has the education, experience, and a proven record of progressive legislative achievements from a lifetime of public service.

Bridget has helped to improve and modernize our infrastructure and public transportation and won funding to fight tick-borne illnesses. Most important to me, Bridget is a staunch environmentalist. She has led successful initiatives to reduce nitrogen pollution in our waters and drive the development of renewable energy for our communities. And she vows to restore the environmental protections that Trump has rolled back.

This is no time for on-the-job training. We need someone who can hit the ground running, mop up Lee Zeldin’s mess, and pave the way to a better future for District 1.

We need Bridget Fleming. Vote absentee, vote early (June 13 to 21), or vote on the day of the primary, June 23. If you care about creating the change we need, vote for the candidate that will make it happen.
