Vote Here

I read with interest last week’s lead real estate story [“Summer Homes Now Primary Homes,” Residence, August 13] and was not surprised by the professionals’ conclusion that many of the New York City and tri-state residents who sought refuge on the East End during the early months of the pandemic will be here to stay, or at least will now make their primary home here even if they maintain a residence elsewhere.

To those who are newly making our community home, I would strongly urge you to consider promptly registering to vote here. Especially in local elections, your vote can have a much greater impact than may have been the case in other jurisdictions.

Specifically, I have in mind the close race in our 1st Congressional District between Democratic challenger Nancy Goroff and Republican incumbent Lee Zeldin. In that race and other down-ballot contests, new voters could make an important difference.

To be eligible to vote in Suffolk County, you must be a resident of the county for at least 30 days before the election and may not claim the right to vote elsewhere. The deadline to register to vote in the November 3, 2020, election is Friday, October 9, 2020.

You can register easily online (suffolkcountyny.gov) or by mail. If you need help, call the Suffolk County Board of Elections at 631-852-4500.

Vote here and make your vote count.
