On Saturday, August 22, the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center held its second drive-in concert fundraiser, “Beachstock,” featuring the music of the Beatles performed by New York City band Square Feeet. With so much attention paid to events like these where things go wrong on the East End, we are full of pride after Governor Andrew Cuomo publicly recognized this event as a model for safe drive-ins across New York State at Monday’s press conference, and I’d like to shine a spotlight on the people who helped make the evening a success.
To all of the attendees who understood that the stakes were high, thank you for following all of the state guidelines, remaining in your vehicles for the duration of the performance and enjoying the concert responsibly. We owe a debt of gratitude to our devoted volunteer corps, Viking Security and TNT Valet Services for keeping the event running smoothly.
Thank you to Westhampton Beach Village Police Chief Trevor Gonce and the Village Police for keeping everyone safe, traffic flowing and guidelines enforced. I want to thank Westhampton Beach Mayor Maria Moore for her unwavering support of WHBPAC, and the entire Board of Trustees for both their enthusiastic partnership and for their trust in WHBPAC.
With no inkling of a date or even a timeline for theaters to reopen, it is critical for small, not-for-profit theaters like WHBPAC to be able to innovate and continue to generate revenue so that we may be sustained during this crisis, so we may in the future sustain the community once more — and it is only possible with the generous support of our sponsors, donors, patrons, and of course, our community.
