We, the undersigned former elected Southampton Village officials, would like to address recent negative political ads that were in The Southampton Press and sent to all village residents by the Village First Coalition candidates for Village Board.
We are a small village, and negative campaigning destroys any opportunity for growth in this community. Each of us has served on the Village Board. We have agreed and disagreed with each other. But, at the end of the day, we all recognized that we must live and work together for the betterment of the Village of Southampton.
The misleading information regarding the financial condition of the village over the past 15-plus years is a nasty attempt to disparage each of us.
According to the village auditors, the Village of Southampton has the lowest debt ratio and strongest cash position on the East End. Moody’s does not upgrade a municipality’s bond rating if it feels there was mismanagement. The Southampton Village bond rating went from Aa2 to Aaa, the highest bond rating possible.
The fabrications are unacceptable. We are people who have given of our time and energy to serve this village. It is, frankly, insulting to our more than 75 years of combined Village Board service.
