Luckily, I had a chance to tune into the Drawdown East End Zoom panel last night, “The Great East End Soil & Sea Conversation,” in partnership with the Southampton Arts Center and inspired by the recent world film premiere “Kiss The Ground” (now available on Netflix).
It was a pleasure to hear from Deborah Aller, soil scientist with the Cornell Cooperative Extension, about regenerative agriculture, and Mimi Edelman, owner of I & Me Farm in Orient, who is engaged in organic farming of good, clean food.
Learning about the East End’s oyster farmers and possibilities for kelp from Dr. Chris Gobler, chair of coastal ecology and conservation, and School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences professor, Stony Brook University, and promoting safe and sustainable lawns and landscapes from Edwina von Gal, author, founder of the “Perfect Earth Project,” got me thinking about what I could do better with my own lawn and the planet.
So, thank you, Mary Morgan, Dorothy Reilly and Krae Van Sickle, co-founders of Drawdown East End, for moderating a lively conversation about the many ways we can safely capture carbon in our all-important soils and sea right here on the East End.
