Concerning the article “Meet the Saints Of Sag Harbor’s Creative World” [Arts & Living, November 26], which notes that Eric Fischl has placed a number of illustrations of past Sag Harbor luminaries in various parts of The Church, I believe he may not (or may?) be aware of the fact that Ilya Bolotowsky, a highly regarded Neoplastic artist, lived on John Street during the 1960s and 1970s and also painted in the same space (an old store) that Willem de Kooning painted in for a time, which is located on the corner directly across from Cappy Amunsen’s studio. It is here where Amunsen punched de Kooning in the face. (He was a nasty piece of work.)

During the 1960s and into the 1970s, I also had two studios on Main Street, at $30 a month, where de Kooning would visit, as well as get drunk with me in the Sandbar on Main Street, as well as enjoy lunch with Ilya Bolotowsky and his son Andrew, who is a noted flutist.
