Need Your Help

The tycoons have divided the hospitals among themselves. NYU Medical Center became NYU Langone Medical Center. Carl Icahn has stamped the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai. Sanford Weill endowed Cornell Medical School, and it is now Weill Cornell College of Medicine.

John Paulson has certainly been helpful with his contribution to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital emergency care. Michael Bloomberg has made an awesome contribution to public health with his staggering endowment of the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins, which has become a national treasure during this pandemic.

Great acts of philanthropy, to be sure, and we are all very grateful.

Why, then, is it overlooked that the animal shelters across this nation have provided an immeasurable benefit to public health and well-being during this pandemic by helping to provide loving companions for so many people who have been living their solitary lives in quiet desperation.

When the Town of Southampton could no longer afford to fund its animal shelter, a private foundation was formed by concerned citizens to carry on its function. The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation has been serving this community and, indeed, this whole country, heroically, during this pandemic. Each year, they have been dealing with a deficit in their tight budget, and it has become worse during this pandemic.

SASF needs your help, fellas. They are doing the best they can with spaghetti dinners and dog shampoo events, but it is going to take a bit more than that to keep them going. They are in dire straits!

Ye great and mighty tycoons: You all seem to enjoy your mansions out here in the Hamptons. Pets are people, too. They are valued family members.

Are you ashamed to put your name on an animal shelter?
