On Zoning

Zoning often tends to be a hot topic in the Town of Southampton. The idea of development and the purposing of land is complex. Many experts often find themselves disagreeing on the course to take.

Keeping that in mind, I feel that there are ways we can work together to ensure that Southampton continues to develop in the spirit of its tradition, while still moving things forward. While many residents have their own views and standards of zoning, I would like to take a moment to share mine.

The Southampton I have come to love as my home over the past 25 years is a close-knit community of residents who go out of their way to volunteer and help each other. With the local rumor mill turning out the possibility of zoning changes, I wanted to make sure I did my homework and can speak to zoning the best I can.

One issue, in particular, I find important is changes in zoning within our local town law, which has successfully served our community with integrity and expertise for 50 years.

Adherence to the town’s master plan is important and crucial to the long-term success and viability of the town. I think it is easier to review and discuss plans and changes briefly before implementing them, rather than moving something fast for the sake of efficiency and realizing it had long-term ramifications.

Therefore, I am all for furthering development systematically and with purpose under the existing structure.

I am always happy to discuss further and listen to input from our local residents. Please feel free to contact me anytime with comments and questions, and I hope everyone continues to stay healthy and safe.
