John Kirrane’s statements at the Express Sessions virtual event, “Turbulence: Could East Hampton Airport Be Tamed Without Being Closed?” were spot on! If there was discussion today to consider building an airport in East Hampton, would residents permit it to happen? Considering the current location of the airport, which sits directly on our pristine aquifer, would the public even consider it? It’s pretty safe to say, no!
In September, the East Hampton Town Board will be free of the Federal Aviation Administration’s grant assurances and could vote to close the airport. As John stated, the East Hampton Town Board, as good neighbors to all surrounding townships, could give a “generational gift to our children and grandchildren” like no other township on Long Island has ever done.
East Hampton Airport is currently a noise and air polluting luxury.

I thank Barbara Ring for aptly proving my point. In response to my letter [“An Alliance,” Letters, April 11], which decried the state of civic public discourse in Hampton Bays as being overtaken by misinformation, fear-mongering and conspiracy peddling, Ring...
