The little bunnies in Morgan Tiska’s kindergarten class at Hampton Bays Elementary School were treated to an egg hunt on March 25. Out in the warm sun, the kindergartners searched their school’s grounds for colorful eggs, which they placed in paper bags that they had decorated for the occasion. Throughout the month, the students read, discussed and voted on 75 books that were narrowed down to a final winner: “Cats” by Seymour Simon. Following a reading of “Rechenka’s Eggs,” a Ukrainian tale by Patricia Polacco, the third graders in Kelley Davide and Jennifer Loesch’s class at Hampton Bays Elementary School created their own uniquely designed eggs that highlighted ways they could be a good “eggs-ample” to their peers. Southampton High School’s carpentry students are putting their skills to use by building an equipment shed for the school’s basketball and softball teams. Under the instruction of their teacher, Bernardo Diaz, the students not only cut and measured wood for the shed, but also learned how to estimate costs, read a blueprint and pitch a proper roof.
