A Bold Move

President Joe Biden has taken a huge second step. It gives me hope again for America and democracy.

Let’s look at what President Biden calls infrastructure. There are all the common items we think of, like roads and bridges, etc., but then he goes on to broadband, home care, manufacturing, housing, water, research and development, schools, workforce development, veteran hospitals, and federal buildings.

This country has been waiting for just this bold a move for years.

Our political system has been in a tailspin for a while, and not just because of Trump. The fact is, some of his ideas were good, except they got caught up in his ego.

Now, President Biden is attacking everything head-on. He could approve it with only his party, like they do in China, but he wants consensus. We have a two-party system, with 263 Republicans potentially standing in the way of the people. Our elected congressional officials should not just say “no.” The Biden plan is what the people need for our children.

Now, the hard part is in the details. Because of the scope of the work involved and the risk of waste, I believe you need a czar to oversee the programs attached to the infrastructure bill. It needs to be someone with street smarts to protect our money (that’s always what we fear when we pay taxes).

Whoever the president picks should not be part of the Washington club and should be bipartisan. Then the world will know America is back and able to protect democracy.
