Ban Helium Balloons

The climate crisis, the array of challenges and responses, can be overwhelming in contemplating approaches.

In one instance, we have the U.S. military-industrial complex polluting more than 140 countries combined. And, in another, we have here annually 85,000 helium balloons running amok in Southampton Town.

Taking on both big and small attacks on our climate and world health turn out to be equally important. With the simple act of a majority Town Board vote to ban helium balloons, we can save birds and fishes, reduce litter, protect recreational areas and farmlands, and set an example for municipalities all over the country.

More than ever, thinking globally, acting locally has a new sense of urgency.

Please act.
