Night Lights

If one of the reasons to install lighting at Hampton West Park is to accommodate adult leagues using the park at night, I vote no — unless some measures can be put in place to deter the bad behavior of some of the fans, such as public urination and excess alcohol use.

Little League is wholeheartedly welcome here. But Hampton West Park isn’t the only park available to them. It is the park more preferred by league managers. That is insufficient reason to inconvenience our residents until 9:30 to 10 p.m. (the time lights would be on, as stated by Southampton Town’s recreation director).

The Little League president stated in an April 15 Press article that Iron Point Park would host some games this season. If more game were held there, there would be no reason to keep children at Hampton West Park until 9:30 to 10 p.m., especially on nights before school days. Lights could be then off at a reasonable 8 to 8:30 p.m.

I vote yes to lights if off by 8 to 8:30 p.m., no if adults will be there until 9:30 to 10 p.m. or later.

Who will control the lights?
