The Right Decision

I am writing to express our gratitude for the efforts of the Conservation Board, which last week issued a rare denial for a new house build application on fragile and rare wetlands. Marty Shea provided a detailed and thorough analysis to support this decision.

The wetlands on Seascape Lane in Sagaponack are adjacent to Stones Throw Farm and also land that has already been preserved by the Peconic Land Trust. This land is host to breeding Northern harriers, a threatened bird.

It would be impossible for any new house to meet the required setbacks for this land, and experts testified that any septic system would likely flood, endangering Sagg Pond.

We are hopeful that the land can be preserved using Community Preservation Fund revenue, to ensure this beautiful untouched natural habitat can be protected.
