A ‘Duckie’ Day

The Hampton Bays Civic Association held its 10th annual Family Fun Day and Rubber Duckie Race on September 11. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, it was broadcast virtually. Beautiful weather and a wonderful group of volunteers, donors and “duck owners” created a memorable event.

Thank you to the multi-tasking HBCA members Janice Landis, Bonnie Doyle, Bob Ricke, John Capone, Christine Taylor and Maria Hults.

There were virtual presentations by Quogue Wildlife Refuge and Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center.

A gold star thank you to sponsors Canoe Place Inn by Rechler Equity and CVS.

O’Shea Funeral Home offered vital support for our Year of Fine Dining Raffle, joining the restaurants that generously donated the grand prize: BOA Thai Fusion, New Moon Café, Matsulin, Sundays on the Bay, Oakland’s, 1 North Steakhouse, Out of the Blue Seafood, Villa Paul, Buckley’s Inn Between, Le Chef, La Parmigiana, and Shippy’s Pumpernickels Restaurant.

Sincere thanks to contributors to the silent auction: Lighthouse Seafood, Angel Tips, Canoe Place Fuel (Shell Station), E Day Spa, Epic Spa & Nails, Edgewater, Canal Café, The Local Bike Shop, Cowfish, Good Ground Antiques, Hampton Auto Wash, Hampton Nursery, King Kullen, Gator’s, La Carezza, Farm Country Kitchen, Digger’s Ales & Eats, Tweed’s, The Garage, Scotto’s, Rumba, Fowler`s Garden Center, Hampton Maid, Edward Archer, Salon East, Skidmore Sports, Mario’s Barber Shop, James Maguire Antiques, Hampton Gyro, Hampton Bays Bagels, Panera Bread, Riverhead Lumber, Stop & Shop, Fandango, Good Ground Cleaners, Job’s Lane Ristorante, Southampton Publick House, Pro Tech Repairs Inc., and Janice and Steve Landis.

Ocean racing ducks require special ballast — thank you to J.J. (Johnathan Lorber) for duckie race prep. Thank you, duckie owners/trainers, and fabulous duckie decorators.

Isabella Taylor’s Decorated Duckie was voted No. 1, Weber and Grahn were second, and Aitana Garcia third. Congratulations, Duckie Race winners: win, Style Marble; place, Rapid Recovery; show, Peconic Physical Therapy.

And a special thank you to the “starting gate” Rumba launch crew, including: Lisa Crawford and Robin Long; Southampton Trustee Scott Horowitz and wife, Pamela; and the Duckie Wranglers, dealing with difficult winds and tides, Kristen King, Bonnie Doyle, Johnathan Lorber and Mary Garcia.

Again, a particular thank you to Eric Miller and the staff at Cowfish, for the perfect venue and the exceptional service.

And a very special thank you to all who watched and supported our event.

See you next year.
