East Quogue Elementary School third graders, including Sophia Cagno and Cristel Martinez, had the opportunity to learn about butterflies by raising their very own caterpillars. Students observed their caterpillars daily while learning about all of the different stages they will go through during the unit. Once caterpillars formed their chrysalis, they were transferred to a larger box while we eagerly waited for them to go through their metamorphosis. Then they celebrated with a butterfly release day.

Southampton High School oceanography students, including Ana Trinidad, wrapped up a productive year by advocating for an ocean-related issue that they are passionate about. Among the projects, they participated in local beach cleanups, taught short lessons about the ocean to fourth graders at Southampton Elementary School, crafted inspiring art pieces and created public service announcements. Hampton Bays Elementary School fourth grade students in Amy McNamara’s class, including from left, Jayden Mejia, Israel Portrero, Leo Ferrufino and Emily Villalba, recently wrote biographies of famous people. The students researched a chosen individual, wrote a report, and then dressed up as that individual and presented in front of the class.
