Although this salamander species is one of the most abundant vertebrates in forest habitats throughout the Northeast, they are rarely spotted on your average walk through the woods. These salamanders are fossorial, spending the majority of their time underground. As we roll logs and stones searching for these fascinating critters, we’ll learn about their life underground, as well as their importance in the forest ecosystems. Dress for wet/muddy conditions.
