Town Fence

27east.com recently published an article regarding a proposed pedestrian bridge over Sunrise Highway from Spinney Road [“Highway Superintendent Envisions ‘Bridging the Gap’ With Trail Bridge Over Sunrise Highway in East Quogue,” 27east.com, February 21]. The article mentioned that a fence across Spinney Road was recently removed by the Southampton Town Highway Department.

A number of years ago, the Town Highway Department installed a physical barrier across Spinney Road where the pavement ends and the unimproved portion begins. The Town Highway Department installed this barrier to block unrestricted access to the unimproved “paper road” portion of Spinney.

This action was taken in response to ongoing resident and town concerns about illicit activities taking place on the unimproved portion of the road, including illegal dumping, the use of 4x4s and partying.
