6th Annual Black Film Festival Comes to Bay Street Theater

authorStaff Writer on Oct 6, 2025

The Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center will present its 6th annual Black Film Festival on Sunday, October 12, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor.

The festival is a signature program that celebrates the creativity, perspectives and lived experiences of the Black community through the art of film. Presented in collaboration with Black Public Media, this year’s event will feature a curated selection of short films, followed by conversations with directors and producers, as well as a discussion with Black Public Media Executive Director Leslie Fields-Cruz.

The featured films include “Spare Me,” directed by Wilderly Mauricette; “Midnight Oil,” directed by Bilal Motley; “Sweet Samara,” directed by Divad Durant; “Black Folk Don’t … Swim,” directed by Angela Tucker; and “An Extra Day To Be Black,” directed by Michael Paul Britto.

“This festival is an extension of our Thinking Forward Lecture Series, ‘Equality Matters in the Hamptons,’” said Bonnie Michelle Cannon, executive director of the Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center. “The Bridgehampton Child Care & Recreational Center starts and continues important conversations. We are more than child care. We are a full-service community center that has been serving our community for over 70 years.”

Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children and students. Light refreshments will be served during the event. Reservations can be made tinyurl.com/the-bhccrc. Bay Street Theater is on Long Wharf in Sag Harbor.
