The East Hampton Library’s Long Island Collection will present the next event in its new series of drop-in, pop-up exhibits. “A Sneak Peek Inside the Long Island Collection: Whaling” will launch Thursday, September 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. Due to popular demand, the exhibit will be on view through Saturday, September 21.

Featured in the exhibit will be whaling logs, correspondence, images and other materials that document the local history of whaling and its reach across the globe. These materials also highlight the experiences of Sag Harbor and East Hampton whalers, who recorded their travels and created art and music while at sea.

The Long Island Collection’s “Sneak Peek” series of pop-up exhibits was designed to highlight items related to some of the most popular topics that people often ask about but may find overwhelming to sift through on their own. The series was designed to encourage people to come back and explore a little bit more, once they understand the range of materials contained in the Long Island Collection. The new drop-in mini exhibits will be on display in The Long Island Collection at the East Hampton Library from 4 to 7 p.m. on their Thursday launch date and remain on view through the Friday and Saturday that follow. Sign-up is not required.

The next and final event in the Long Island Collection 2024 Sneak Peek series is: Thursday, December 5, 4 to 7 p.m. “Home Sweet Home.” For more information, contact Andrea Meyer, Librarian/Archivist, Head of Collection at andrea@easthamptonlibrary.org or call 631-324-0222 ext. 4. The East Hampton Library is at 159 Main Street in East Hampton.
