Choral Society Auditions

authorStaff Writer on Sep 11, 2023

The Choral Society of the Hamptons will hold auditions for all singing parts (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) in late-September and early-October for singers interested in joining the group prior to the Choral Society’s upcoming concert on Sunday, December 3.

The Choral Society primarily rehearses at the Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church, and the December concert will be performed there as well. The winter concert, “A Christmas Garland: Bach, Rutter, & Saylor,” will be directed by Walter Klauss and will feature J.S. Bach’s “Christmas Oratorio,” as well as works by John Rutter and Bruce Saylor. The concert will feature the South Fork Chamber Orchestra and professional soloists.

Prospective singers are invited to be guests at the first rehearsal on September 18 and audition prior to the second or third rehearsal on September 25 and October 2. Ability to read music is helpful, but not always essential.

Interested singers are invited to call the Choral Society’s administrative director, Maria Fumai Dietrich, 631-204-9402, or email info@choralsocietyofthehamptons.org for an appointment to audition.

Founded in 1946, the Choral Society of the Hamptons, with a repertoire of music by all the great choral composers, attracts members from across the East End. The Society has performed with renowned artists such as Dave Brubeck, Norman Dello Joio, Clamma Dale, and members of the Metropolitan Opera, and under the direction of conductors including John Daly Goodwin, Ifor Jones, Gilbert Kaplan, and its late music director, Mark Mangini. The chorus has performed as far away as the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and in New York City at Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, and for the annual Christmas tree-lighting ceremony in Rockefeller Center. To further encourage choral music, the Choral Society gives scholarships for musical training to talented singers in local schools. At this time, the Choral Society is also conducting a search to fill the position of music director.
