Opening Sunday, August 7, in Southampton, Todd Merrill Studio will present a solo exhibition of new works of sculpture and garden seating by contemporary ceramist Curtis Fontaine.

Fontaine’s monolithic ceramic sculptures are created through a unique process of hand-building that relies as much on intuition as structural aptitude. The non-utilitarian, closed-forms are best understood as abstract sculptures, existing in a purely aesthetic sphere; globular, playful, ambiguous, and sensual, their substantial visual weight generally not seen in ceramics. Recently, he has expanded his practice to include functional seating.

The gallery is located at 11 South Main Street in Southampton. For more information, visit toddmerrillstudio.com.
