Throughout history, singers have woven melodic texts with the harmonies and punteados of lyres, harps, lutes, vihuelas and guitars to express humankind’s deepest feelings — from celebration to despair.

In “Interweaving /Entretejiendo,” classical guitarist Francisco Roldán and soprano Gretchen Farrar will perform a selection of art songs by Dowland, Sor, Lorca, Cordero and other composers, from Europe and the Americas, in which guitar and voice create a “tapestry of sound,” according to a press release.

“Gretchen Farrar and Francisco Roldán have been praised by the The New York Times for their ‘passionate and shapely performances’ of Ernesto Cordero’s songs and celebrated by Art Times Online as ‘the icing on the cake,’” it said. “They have presented works by Bellini, Berlioz, Brahms, Britten, Brouwer, Mozart and others throughout the New York metropolitan area and the northeast.”

The concert will be held on Friday, October 19, at 7 p.m. at the Montauk Library, located at 871 Montauk Highway in Montauk. Admission is free. For more information, call (631) 668-3377 or visit montauklibrary.org.
