Women’s Art Center of the Hamptons (WACH) in Bridgehampton will open its new exhibition, “Feast – A Still Life,” with a reception on Thursday, August 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition will be on view through October 14. The group show takes a refreshing look at the intersection of food and art and includes work by Andrea Alvin, Monica Banks, Nancy McIntyre, Shayna Leib, Edwina Lucas, Maryann Lucas, and Nadine Robbins.

“Feast – A Still Life” is a celebration of daily fare. Part ritual, part sustenance, and encompassing all the senses, food can stir emotions and taste buds just as easily in art as in real life.

“This exhibition presents an incredible group of artists who share a feast for both the eyes and the soul” says WACH director Wendy Van Deusen.

The hyper-realistic oysters of Nadine Robbins are reminders of summer days at a seafood shack with an ice-cold beer for a companion. Nancy McIntyre’s paintings provide a feast for the eyes in storefront restaurants and bake shops. Shayna Leib’s sweets in glass make one look closely at their detail and then look again and again in sheer delight. The paintings of Andrea Alvin bring the simplicity and beauty of food into focus in brilliant color and composition. Monica Banks’s ceramic desserts symbolize moments, big and small.

“‘Feast – A Still Life’ reminds us that a feast can be as simple as looking at the goodies in a bakery store window or savoring a piece of candy,” says Joi Jackson Perle, WACH associate director. “The quiet moments of joy that food brings are reasons enough to celebrate our daily bread in art.”

Women’s Art Center of the Hamptons is located at 2418 Main Street in Bridgehampton. WACH is a nonprofit organization that promotes women thinkers and makers through educational initiatives, community programs, exhibitions and events for the enjoyment and enrichment of the human spirit.
