Environmental artist and educator Tony Valderrama will lead a hands-on workshop, “Native American Zoomorphic Pinch Pots,” on Thursday, August 14, from 2 to 3 p.m. at The Church in Sag Harbor.

Open to all ages, the one-hour session invites participants to explore the intersection of culture, art, wildlife and music. Attendees will learn basic clay techniques to create their own animal-inspired pinch pots — one of the earliest forms of Native American ceramics. Valderrama will also share insights into Native American traditions through flute music and examples of his artwork, drawing from his Indigenous Taino heritage.

The workshop is presented in conjunction with “The Ark,” The Church’s summer exhibition curated by Eric Fischl. Featuring animal sculptures by more than 40 international artists, the exhibition reflects on humanity’s connection to animals and nature, as well as enduring themes of rebirth and renewal.

All tools and materials will be provided, and participants will take their finished works home. Admission is $25 ($20 members). The Church is located at 48 Madison Street, Sag Harbor. Register at thechurchsagharbor.org.
