Getting Funny at the Fairway

authorStaff Writer on Oct 21, 2024

Since June, East End comedian Pete Cestaro has been hosting a monthly comedy show at Fairway Restaurant at Poxabogue Golf Center, called comedy@pox. The next comedy@pox show is Saturday, October 26, with comedian Jenny Zigrino headlining a show beginning at 7 p.m. Also performing will be Julian Maldonado, Igor Martinez and Pete Cestaro.

“As a local comedian, I’ve always wanted to do a show here on the East End, and I’ve had my eye on Pox for some time,” explained Cestaro of the show’s creation. “It’s a venue I’ve always loved. Since launching the show in June, it has grown into something truly special.”

The idea for comedy@pox was inspired by the passing of Cestaro’s dear friend, Russell Blue.

“Russell and I played softball together, and his dedication to the local charity, Maureen’s Haven, really touched me,” said Cestaro. “To honor him, I started this monthly comedy series, and we’ve been donating a portion of the proceeds from every show to Maureen’s Haven, though I hope to give even more as the show becomes more profitable.

“I’m thrilled to say that every show so far has sold out, and we’ve had the privilege of featuring fantastic comedians, including several nationally recognized names,” he added. “The show continues to grow, and it’s become a heartfelt way to bring the community together for laughs.”

With the sweetness of the Midwest and the sharp edge of the East Coast, Jenny Zigrino brings a powerful comedic performance to any stage. She combines hilarious anecdotes and sharp, witty observations with a cheeky style that challenges social norms and what it means to be human. Her brutal honesty and undeniable charm create a compelling comedic experience.

Julian Maldonado is a comic, actor, and writer. Based in New York City, the Florida native takes the stage with a reflective style of comedy, sharing his own life experiences mixed with stories from his Puerto Rican upbringing in a relatable fashion. He has been featured on Amazon Prime in the limited series “Deathless” where he played the role of Daniel. Initially starting out as a sketch writer, his written and produced video content can be found on all social media platforms.

Igor Martinez was born in the mean streets of Venezuela and raised in a swamp in South Florida. He is now a stand-up comedian based in New York City and is a regular at Broadway Comedy Club, Greenwich Village Comedy Club and New York Comedy Club and has performed in the 2022 and 2023 New York Comedy Festival.

Pete Cestaro is a bi-coastal comedian, dividing his time between Bridgehampton and Encinitas, California, mostly because he hates the winter and loves the ocean but also because of the proximity to the country’s best comedy clubs. He’s hosted College Sports Television and AMC’s Date Night.

Tickets for comedy@pox are $75 and the evening begins with a barbecue from 5:45 to 7 p.m. on the patio of Fairway Restaurant. The menu includes chicken, Italian sausage, hot dogs, burgers (veggie options available), watermelon salad, corn salad, soft drinks and more, all included in the ticket price. The show follows from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Purchase tickets at eventbrite.com.
